Le Mans Race – 14th + 15th June 2008 MANS Chéri! An incredibly exciting 24 hours Le Mans race saw AUDI defeat Peugeot, the local heroes; and Carrera was there too! Although Carrera wasn’t on the race track there was direct contact with the winning AUDI in the AUDI RACING arena. Working in cooperation with AUDI, Carrera built a miniature version of the Le Mans circuit in the AUDI VIP area. AUDI started this year’s 24 hour race at Le Mans absolutely determined to win. Especially when there’s a battle of the giants of supreme quality and skill, such as the one between Audi and Peugeot, Carrera simply has to be there. AUDI’s press conference in their VIP tent on Friday attracted motor sport press representatives from all over the globe. Armed with all the latest pit-lane news from the sporting director Wolfgang Ulrich they had an opportunity to test out the Carrera circuit with AUDI drivers such as Tom Kristensen and Allen McNish to name just two; and to discuss the pioneering use of the 2nd generation organic fuel, BTL (biomass-to-liquids). Professional drivers became Carrerarists over the three days of the event as the Carrera DIGITAL 124 circuit was set up in Le Mans for the first time, of course using AUDI R10 cars. Great fun was had on the small scale circuit by giants and minnows of motorsport alike, with a real air of competitive rivalry. Carrera world champion, Andreas Loth, was determined to provide Carrera drivers with plenty of tips and tricks for dropping their lap times. Constant lap time improvements were the rewards reaped by most of the racers at Le Mans. However, enjoying the moral support of his wife, Andreas set times no-one could touch the whole weekend. The Carrera world champion cut a good figure in a number of roles. In a live press broadcast on AUDI TV Andreas Loth explained and demonstrated the art of driving a Carrera using an Audi R10. Alongside Andreas Loth and the eminently popular racing legend Hans-Joachim Stuck, the Carrera circuit was also graced by the presence of the British singer James Morrison!
